SD-CAB is a member-based non-profit organization with membership open to research institutions, public and private sector organizations, students, and individuals. We accomplish our objective of enhancing knowledge in algae biotechnology through shared information in these ways:
SD-CAB is a consortium of researchers in many departments across campus that each have their own protocol to apply for a Postdoc position or their Graduate Degree program. If you are interested in graduate or postdoc research at a SD-CAB lab, you should first review our faculty and their departments. Specific information on graduate programs by department, including the application process can be found on the UCSD Office of Graduate Studies website.
EDGE - SD-CAB is currently developing three Biofuels Production Certificate programs for the Educating and Developing workers for the Green Economy (EDGE) Inititiative, funded by the California Department of Labor. The EDGE grant is coming to a close in June 2012. Information about the future of the Biofuels Certificate programs will be posted as it becomes available.
Internships - SD-CAB coordinates summer internships (Summer BioEnergy Research Program) to broaden students’ educational experience. Additional internships for UCSD students that can be carried out in SD-CAB labs are also listed on our summer internship page.
Outreach - SD-CAB coordinates activities with the Biofuels Action and Awareness Network (BAAN). UC San Diego undergraduate and graduate students from multiple disciplines created BAAN as a way to organize biodiesel workshops and implement programs.
SD-CAB plans an annual symposium, which includes an internationally distinguished panel of speakers.
SD-CAB coordinates seminars to educate the public. See the SD-CAB events calendar for upcoming seminars and events.
With support from our sponsors, SB-CAB recognizes excellence with our Distinguished Research Award and Innovative Industry Award.
Along with BAAN and the San Diego Natural History Museum, SD-CAB plans to reach out to youth through high school and educational programs.
SD-CAB scientists summarize and comment on the latest scientific and policy trends.
SD-CAB plans to develop an online library, industry/ research updates, ongoing news and policy alerts, jobs postings, and a directory of firms.
Through its presentations, seminars, and events, SD-CAB provides face-to-face interactions.
In conjunction with CleanTECH San Diego, SD-CAB sponsors business briefings and access to scientists.
