Associate Professor, Medicine

Dr. John Chang studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying T lymphocyte fate specification. He is the recipient of the HHMI Physician-Scientist Early Career Award and the NIH Director's New Innovator Award. In 2016, Dr. Chang was elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation and received the AGA-GRG Young Investigator Award in Basic Science.

rob knightRob Knight

Professor, Pediatrics

Rob Knight is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, with an additional appointment in the Department of Computer Science, at the University of California San Diego. He was chosen as one of 50 HHMI Early Career Scientists in 2009, is a Senior Editor at the ISME Journal, a member of the Steering Committee of the Earth Microbiome Project, and a co-founder of the American Gut Project.

steve mayfieldSteve Mayfield

Professor, Molecular Biology

Dr. Mayfield is the director of the California Center for Algae Biotechonology, co-director of Food & Fuel for the 21st Century, and a professor of Molecular Biology at UC San Diego. His research focuses on gene regulation in eukaryotic algae and the use of this alga for the production of human therapeutic proteins and as a platform for biofuel production.
